Due to the current situation, film releases have been postponed again and again in recent years. This is also the case with the latest part of the James Bond series No Time to Die. However, this also brings with it some records and cheat records: It took a proud 31 years, for example, until Q, Felix Leiter, Miss Moneypenny and M could be seen together in a film since License to Kill. Daniel Craig, the main actor in the eponymous film series, can now boast of being the James Bond who has been embodied by him for the longest time, at a total of 15 years. However, Sean Connery and Roger Moore played the character seven times, while Daniel Craig "only" managed five missions. The film also sets another age record: the director Cary Joji Fukunaga (Sin Nombre, True Detective) had big differences with the originally planned composer Dan Romer (Beasts of No Nation, Beasts of the Southern Wild), which is why Hans Zimmer (The Boss Baby, The Lightship) stood in for him. This has never happened in the series' 58-year history.
Inhalt
The English bon vivant and (former and now reactivated) secret agent on the mission of His Majesty James Bond leads again around the world with his adventures. This time it's more or less involuntary, because after James had to part with his former girlfriend Madeleine Swan, he retired on a small Caribbean island. He only has to be sure of his goal when handling the shot glass that leads to his mouth. If he doesn't let a fishing line with hooks tied to his toe drift in the water while he takes a nap, he also likes to ride a moped through the towns and greet people. His idyll is suddenly disturbed when the heir to his license stands on the doorstep and makes him an offer that he cannot refuse: He should help to finally smash the remains of the organization of his opponent Ernst Stavro Blofeld called "Specter". His ex-girlfriend Madeleine, who is now the psychiatrist of that very adversary, also receives a visit from an old acquaintance who asks her for a favor that could have far-reaching consequences ...
Fazit
While the first three films with Daniel Craig staged fast-paced and entertaining intro sequences, the intro of Specter was rather leisurely and felt like 30 minutes, but it was just as entertaining. No Time to Die now copies the best of both variants. During the first third of the film, tension builds up, which is accompanied by exciting action sequences, for which neither expense nor effort was spared this time (for the sequence in Italy, for example, several thousand liters of a sugary soft drink were spilled on the streets, so that the tires of the cars had a better grip on paving stones). The film is accompanied by excellent music with interesting interpretations. "Unfortunately," there are also many other reinterpretations that make this film the James Bond with the most stylistic inconsistencies. Sworn fans could flutter their ears. Another theme of the film is political correctness. This is - comparable to the Transformers franchise - placed frequently and prominently, whereby it has no influence on the plot and is therefore more likely to attract negative attention or be disturbing. The Bond series lives above all from its opponents. A good choice was made with Rami Malek, although it has to be said that he only appears briefly in this film and seems rather wooden and characterless. On the one hand, that seems wasted; on the other hand, one can also say that this may have been intentional in interaction with the other actors and therefore it seems very balanced. All in all, it's a good Bond, but it won't win a heart or thumbs up on a social platform from every veteran fan.
Valuation:
A well-shaken martini, but still stirred again. First an olive was put into the glass, then it was taken out again and a pineapple was put in, then the olive was added to it, then both were taken out and finally put back in together.
